GENERAL INFORMATION ON VITÉZ KÜRTŐS

What does the umbrella brand VITÉZ include?
The umbrella brand VITÉZ grew out of the chimney cake brand Vitéz Kürtős, which comprises multiple sub-brands today. Certainly, the base brand is VITÉZ KÜRTŐS, which includes our traditional charcoal-roasted chimney cakes and desserts made from chimney cake. Sub-brands of VITÉZ GASTRO include products we developed ourselves to facilitate roasting kürtőskalács at home, such as the Mini Grill KÜRTŐS Bake’n’Roll, the Kürtőskalács Dowels, Kürtős Donut Baking Sticks, and the related barbecue accessories: grill grates, battery operated rotisserie motors etc. A further sub-brand is high-quality BEECHWOOD CHARCOAL FROM HARGHITA, which is part of the VITÉZ GASTRO family, too.

Who owns VITÉZ’s website and brand?
The website vitezkurtos.hu, as well as the brands VITÉZ KÜRTŐS and VITÉZ GASTRO, along with the linked sub-brands are owned and managed by Földijó-Gasztro Kft., the owners of which are Gáspár Bálint and Tünde András.

How many Vitéz Kürtős shops are in Hungary?
Currently, we have two permanent shops: “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop and Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó situated inside Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden.

At what events can we encounter Vitéz Kürtős?
During the year, we appear at a large number of events, whether at Lake Balaton, in Budapest, in Veszprém or in Győr. Follow us on Facebook or on our website, and see our event calendar for specific dates.

Where in the Zoo is Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó situated?
The exact address is 1146 Budapest, Állatkert körút 6-12., inside the Zoo, you will find us in front of the Lion Court.

Do I need to buy a ticket to the Zoo to be able to shop in Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó?
You can only access this shop if you buy a ticket to the Zoo. For ticket prices, find information here.

Where is “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop?
The exact address is 1146 Budapest, Állatkert körút 14-16.
The pastry shop is precisely across the main entrance of Széchenyi Bath, between the Circus and the Merry-go-round.

Do I need to buy a ticket to the Zoo to be able to shop in “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop?
There is no need to buy a ticket to the Zoo to be able to buy Vitéz Kürtős chimney cakes and other desserts. Although the interior part of “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop is part of the Holnemvolt Vár (Once-Upon-a-Time Castle), but we have a terrace outdoors, with a separate entrance to our enclosed terrace, as well as an order window to the Állatkerti körút side.

How can I approach “Édes Mackó”, and can I park in front of it?
Car parks are available against a fee on both sides of Állatkerti körút, also in front of “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop.

What are the opening hours of “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop?
Our opening hours vary seasonally. Between November and March, the pastry shop is open every day from 9.30 to 18.00, and between April and October, from 9.30 to 18.00 on weekdays and from 9.30 to 19.00 at weekends.

What are the opening hours of Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó in the Zoo?
The opening hours of Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó in the territory of Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden are always adjusted to the opening hours of Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden. Normally, the Zoo expects visitors on every day of the year – including holidays –, as shown in the opening hours here.

What flavours of chimney cakes are available permanently in your shops?
Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó (Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden): out of the classic flavours, vanilla, walnut, cinnamon, coconut, cocoa, almond are always available, as well as raspberry, as a special flavour.

“Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop: our permanent offer includes chimney cakes with raspberry, strawberry, passion fruit and chocolate chips, while our seasonal offer includes chimney cakes with citrus fruit, sour cherry-and-poppy seeds, cappuccino, and roasted hazelnut flavours.

What chimney cake desserts are made on a continuous basis in “Édes Mackó”?
The following desserts are on our permanent menu:
Kürtős Pastry Cream, Kürtős Bearing, Kürtős Ice Cream, Kürtős Fondue, Double Raspberry Kürtős Fondue, Kürtős Gerbaud, Kürtős Cake, Kürtős Flower, Kürtős Szelet (Kürtős Slice of Cake), and, out of chimney cake dessert bowls: Kürtős Semolina Pudding, Kürtős Poppy Seed dessert, Kürtős Floating Island.

What are the ingredients of Vitéz Kürtős products?
Our ingredients: flour, powdered milk, water, butter, yeast, sugar, lemon zest, salt, vanilla.

What allergens may Vitéz Kürtős products contain?

Gluten, casein, lactose, nuts.

When and where can I buy gluten-free and dairy-free chimney cakes?
In “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop, gluten-free and dairy-free chimney cakes are available every Wednesday and at the first weekend of every month, as well as at our Gluten-free and Dairy-free Weekends.

What are the ingredients of gluten-free and dairy-free chimney cakes?
Ingredients: Mimen milk-loaf flour mix, gluten-free and dairy-free butter, water, plant-based milk, yeast, sugar, lemon zest, salt, vanilla.

Are sugar-free chimney cakes available?
We cannot make sugar-free chimney cakes. There is no sugar substitute that could be caramelized on chimney cakes to form a crispy outside and a nice and soft inside.

Are eggs used in the chimney cake dough?
With the exception of “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop, our chimney cakes are made without eggs; accordingly, we do not use eggs in Vitéz Kürtős Kuckó in the Zoo and at events, but we add eggs to the dough in “Édes Mackó”.

How long do chimney cakes and chimney cake desserts retain their quality?
We recommend consuming our chimney cakes and chimney cake desserts fresh, or not later than within 2 hours after baking, so that you can enjoy the delight of genuine Vitéz quality chimney cakes. This is our recommendation, but our chimney cakes still taste delicious the next day with your morning coffee.

What payment methods are available in the shops? Bank cards? SzÉP Cards?
You can use cash, bank cards and OTP SzÉP Cards to pay in out shops.

Can I send a personalized message with Vitéz Kürtős?

Is smoking allowed in Vitéz Kürtős shops?
As required by law, smoking is prohibited in our shops; smoking is only permitted at designated areas.

Can I buy Vitéz Kürtős / Édes Mackó gift vouchers?
Yes, you can buy gift vouchers. Currently, gift vouchers worth HUF 1,000, HUF 3,000 and HUF 5,000 are available for purchasing in person in our “Édes Mackó” Chimney Cake Pastry Shop or for ordering at the website info@vitezkurtos.hu.

How does chimney cake home delivery work?
We are a contracted partner to food delivery services Wolt and Netpincér, so you can place your order also on their websites. In addition, you can also order directly from us if your order reaches or exceeds HUF 4,800 or 4 pieces of chimney cakes to be delivered to anywhere in Budapest and if you place your order on the day preceding delivery, at the latest, at the e-mail address info@vitezkurtos.hu.

Can I place orders for chimney cakes in advance?

Can I order chimney cake delivery to outside Budapest?
We can only deliver chimney cakes to Budapest.

Kürtős Cake Bar means that we serve a selection of our chimney cake desserts. We offer it within the territory of Budapest; it is possible also outside Budapest but only as an off-site service, given that we freshly bake everything. What does the Bake’n’roll mini chimney cake charcoal grill include?

The package includes the grill, 2 pieces of baking rods, 1 fire poker, two rotisserie motors with batteries included, and a chimney cake recipe with step-by-step photos.

How many kilograms does it weigh? What are its dimensions when assembled and disassembled?
The Bake’n’roll chimney cake grill weighs 8.5 kg. Its dimensions: 42x38x27 cm when assembled, and 44x35x8 cm in a flat pack / box.

How long does it take to assemble it? Do I need tools for it?
It can be assembled in roughly 5 to 10 minutes, no tools needed.

I did not find the assembly instructions for the product! Can I get it online?
Yes, we can send it to you also in a pdf format.

What kind of charcoal can I use with it?
We recommend that you use our product HARGITAI BÜKKFASZÉN (Beechwood Charcoal from the Harghita Mountains) with the product.

What does the option “Have you changed your mind? No problem!” mean?
Our customers are allotted a 30-day cooling period. If a customer has changed their mind for any reason, and contacts us and returns the product to us, we refund them the full price.

BEECHWOOD CHARCOAL PRODUCTS

In what packaging units is beechwood charcoal available?
The product is available in packaging units of 3, 5, 9 and 10 kg.

Where are Beechwood products made?
Beechwood products are made in Szeklerland.

Does the product contain chemicals? What process is used for burning the charcoal?
No, our products are free of any chemicals. For the burning, the wood is stacked in a charcoal pile, for which a flat area is found or formed. Thick billets or logs are normally placed in the middle, stacked with three layers of wood piled on end almost vertically, and covered with soil. The charcoal pile is lit on the top, then let slowly burn for 8 to 12 days then rest for a day.

What is beechwood charcoal good for?
Besides barbecuing, it is suitable for detoxication in medicine, as well as for removing smells, eliminating moisture and preventing rust in households.

What kind of grill devices is Beechwood Charcoal recommended for?
From the simplest of barbecue grills through smokers to Kamado grills.
